New Mercy

The photo archive of a town that doesn’t exist. Its records office publishes holdings like any small-town archive: council meetings, church events, culverts, a pump house. Every person in every photograph is the same woman, and nobody in town can tell.

Each resident is a part of me grown into a whole person: the motorcycle rider, the one who wished she’d been godly, the film worker, the sober ex-addict. It’s about not being able to get away from yourself, and the lives we could have lived but didn’t. The images are AI-generated because that is what the tool natively does: make plausible people who never existed.

Cyborg Cathedral home page: a gothic web page with a portrait of Atrocity in a cybernetic headset, a congregation counter, and a confession booth

Cyborg Cathedral

The personal website of Atrocity, formerly Sister Montgomery, a nun who had a vision and left the church to hasten the coming of machine angels. On the surface it’s a strange early-web homepage with a guestbook, scripture, a confession booth, and a congregation counter.

Underneath, it’s becoming an alternate reality game. Visitors piece the cosmology together from artifacts, blog posts, and scripture. A priest in the cathedral hands over the doctrine a piece at a time, and a written testimony decides who gets to meet an angel.

AI Self-Portraits

Generating a specific real person is one of the hardest things to do with image models. They pull every face toward a generic stranger, and a single costume word can overwrite a likeness. I rebuilt my own face so it holds across wet-plate tintypes, flash snapshots, noir studio sets, and chrome cyborg bodies by combining a LoRA trained on my likeness with Midjourney’s Omni Reference. The same method casts every resident of New Mercy.

I also moderate r/aiselfportrait, where I am so far the only poster.
